Static Excitation Systems

Present trend is to provide controlled excitation of the alternator directly from a fast acting, hiighly pwer efficient, sophisticated power electronics based excitation systems.

Since the external exciter is totally eliminated, it saves on power losses and also maintenance cost.

If the system is maintained regularly and kept in cool and dust free atmosphere, it can give trouble free service for decades, together, mainly because it is absolutely static and does not incorporate any movinng part.
